Shatta Wale vows to be “Mindful With Words” after disability controversy

In reaction to accusations made by the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) that he made fun of Stonebwoy’s disabilities, reggae dancehall artist Shatta Wale released a statement.

This comes after Shatta Wale was strongly warned by the group to take back his comment after it was claimed that he made fun of Stonebwoy.

A statement released by Shatta Movement (SM) and endorsed by Samuel Flex, the artist’s manager, claims that the media has distorted Shatta Wale.

It was also revealed in the statement that, the rationale behind that comment “wasn’t to mock or belittle individuals with disabilities, but rather to emphasize the importance of Stonebwoy acting right and treating others with respect at all times”.

It was not his “intention to cause any harm, and we value and respect the contributions and rights of individuals with disabilities in our society,” the Shatta Movement group said, despite the word “disabled” being a sensitive one.

As part of their ongoing commitment to “promoting inclusivity and understanding, Shatta Wale and his management team promise to be more mindful of our words and actions going forward.” We are grateful that you brought this to our notice, and we also appreciate your understanding.
