17 small scale miners in Gbane in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region were trapped in a mining pit on Monday, 31st May 2021.
The Moabok mining site gave in after a heavy downpour the a night before the unfortunate incident.
Reports suggest that out of the 10 bodies retrieved, seven were from Gaare, one from Tindongo and the other one was from Kpale, all neighbouring communities.
Their bodies were retrieved two days after the collapse by police and NADMO who have actively involved in the rescue mission.
These are young men between the ages of 20 and 40 years old who met their untimely death trying to put food on their tables.
Pictures of the deceased young men have gone viral with friends and family sympathizing with bereaved families.
