Meet Akurugu Abagna, the Winkongo posthumous hitmaker with his Tim Tim song

Must read

Akurugu Abagna died just when his song Tim Tim which would have been his breakthrough record, began accumulating traction in the Upper East Region.

Many know him as “Simple Boy” and others call him the “Winkongo star”.

Akurugu Abagna fits unwillingly in the one-hit wonders receptacle but he can also be glorified in the group of the like of 2Pac, XXXTentatious, Ebony, and many others who are posthumous hitmakers.

In the case of the aforementioned Americans, they topped Billboard charts with their songs which hitherto was unknown before their demise.

Sadly, Akurugu Abagna aka Simple Boy did not find himself in a country where the systems work for the creatives or a proper royalty collection structure. He should be earning some money even after his death.

That said, Akurugu Abagna was a great composer who incorporates the Koligo instrumentation into his records.

He passed on to eternity in March 2021 after a short illness at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.

Akurugu Abagna might be buried but he has left an indelible touch on the people in the Upper East Region who sing his song word for word.

Rest Well Abagna.
