Edward Bawa calls for ECG MD’s resignation over Dumsor Lies

MP Edward Abambire Bawa of the Bongo constituency has attacked Dubik Mahama, the managing director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Bawa, a member of Parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee, has charged Mahama with misleading the people of Ghana.

Bawa drew attention to an announcement made by ECG on March 11th, in which it stated that 630 defective transformers within its operational regions were to blame for the inconsistent power supply, or dumsor, experienced by several regions of the nation.

Bawa countered that the assertion was false and went against the Public Utility Regulatory Commission’s (PURC) conclusions.

The GPS coordinates and ratings of the malfunctioning transformers, along with other relevant data, were sought by the PURC from ECG. After inspection, the PURC discovered that most transformers were functioning within normal limits, with only 89 of them being overloaded.

Bawa emphasized that the ECG MD has to resign from his position for authorizing a statement that deliberately misled the public.

Additionally, he emphasized that the results of the PURC corroborated the minority’s allegations that ECG had not been following the Cash Waterfall Mechanism since August 2023.

Furthermore, Bawa disclosed that ECG is managing 61 bank accounts rather than just one, against advice from President Akufo-Addo and the IMF.

The management of ECG under Mahama’s direction has come under increased scrutiny due to this lack of transparency in financial operations.
